An array of green found in the conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. At the top left, is an unusual rock plant. A live plant, about the size of a thumb that looks like a rock. Below that, a blooming cactus. Lastly, a large palm leaf sunlit from behind.
My place to slow down and relax is anywhere where I can enjoy the beauty and quietness of the outdoors.
My favorite time of day to be out with my camera is at sunrise. The quietness of morning helps settle my soul. Macro photography forces me to slow down to notice the tiniest of details. Finally, hiking is what started my love of photography by getting me out the door to explore the trails.
Two other Hawaiian landscapes were featured in “Feel the Breeze.”
Welcome to the first weekly challenge for One Step at a Time. For this adventure, I didn’t stray too far from home. The Deer Run Trail at Kensington Metropark is an easy 1.5 mile hike on a natural surface. Along the way, I was guided in the right direction by a fellow walker, a sandhill crane (pictured below).

Tiny details inside the pink blossom of a Purple Heart plant. I got to spend some time at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens earlier this week. This is one of many pretty blossoms in their conservatory.
Another blossom from Matthaei Botanical Gardens was featured on “Reaching Out.”
A stroll through Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. During the month of December, the average high temperature there is 66°F. With 128 miles of hiking trails, winter is a great time to explore.
This wispy flower was captured at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden in Texas. Two other images from the same garden was featured in “Colorful Wispiness.”
