An African Lion Needs His Rest

African Lion

Even an African lion needs his rest in the middle of the day. I came across this one during a game drive in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve.

A lion resting on the grass near a tree stump, with its eyes closed, in a natural environment.

A gallery of other African wildlife was featured on “Cats of Africa.”

  1. Looked like he got a great nap!

    1. I think he did. We all need a nap after a big meal. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. When resting, they look like a big ‘ole sweet pussy cat!

    1. Yes, they do! It is easy to forget that they are wild.

    1. Thanks, Nora. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. Oh my – you’d think someone from his pride might be guarding him? Maybe he knows that smaller predators fear him, so might as well shut his eyes and rest. He is still young, going by the small mane, so doesn’t see the danger.

    1. You are right! The rest of the pride was not far at all. Some of the females were dozing too, but not all. I had been trying for a few days to photograph a male lion. This was taken shortly after they had a kill and their tummies were full. That was a very good thing for us! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Yes, they would ready for a nap. You were lucky to find a pride so close and get that coveted male lion shot. You did luck out!

        1. We had some fantastic guides. They spotted all the wildlife way before any of the rest of us did. They also kept us safe.

          1. You were lucky!

    1. I did, I did! ๐Ÿ˜.

We really weren’t as close as it looks. I had my long lens on my camera and we also weren’t allowed to get out of the safari vehicle.

      1. Close enough though, โ€ฆ for a marvellous photo opportunity, โ€ฆ๐Ÿ’™
