Don’t Go, Don’t Go!

As we hiked the Sendero-Esperanza Trail at the Saguaro National Park, I noticed a small bird looking down at us from a saguaro cactus that towered over our heads. I stopped and stared right back at it, trying to decide whether to switch from my 28mm lens to a 400mm lens. Moving very slowly while making the change, I found myself whispering, “Don’t go, don’t go. Please don’t fly away!“ I gradually lifted my camera up to my eye, paused, and focused before clicking the shutter.

Yes, you guessed it! The bird rushed off right as I clicked. This is the one and only shot that I was able to get. I am thinking that if birds could giggle, this one probably got a good chuckle as it flew away.

  1. wow! your photos are stunning!

    1. Thanks, Marina. Words of encouragement are always appreciated. 😊

  2. An interesting shot. Waiting for that perfect shot with birds can be frustrating. They are on a different time table. Have a good day Pepper. Allan

    1. I don’t photograph birds often for that exact reason. 😁 Bird photographers have my admiration. I just don’t have the patience it takes to capture birds well.

  3. It had you figured out from the get-go, lol!

    1. Don’t I know it! I couldn’t believe how still it stood up until I clicked. My hubby got a good laugh out of it. 😁

      1. I think perhaps their eyesight is so good that it is either the quick lens or little red infrared flash that sets them off.

        1. Red infrared flash? 🤔

          1. It measures distance so that it can focus. Stand in front of a mirror and depress the shutter part way and you should see it.

            1. I’ll have to try that!

  4. A very good shot. But the bird, probably, did not like it.

    1. Thanks, Gisela. I don’t think it liked it either. 😉

    1. Thanks, Christine. 😊

Thoughtful words accomplish much.
