One Step at a Time #9

One Step at a Time #9

Today’s hike for One Step at a Time #9 took me the Deer Run Trail at Kensington Metropark. I was joined by a Sandhill Crane. The crane eventually decided I stopped too often to take photos and left me behind.

There were three first timers who joined in the challenge last week. Here are the links to all the wonderful posts They are all worth taking the time to take a look.

Egidio shared a tremendous gallery taken along the San Gabriel River.
Sue’s gave us beautiful views from Homer Alaska.
Linda returns with an adorable Mother’s Day post.
Anita joined in with beautiful landscapes and flowers.
Teresa brought some incredible photos from Hoi An.
Marsha contributed a wonderful gallery from Sacramento.
Terri is back with some pink and pastels.

    1. Thanks, Sue. Always glad to see your link. 👍🏽

  2. Awesome hiking companion, even if for just a short stroll!❤️

    1. Donna, you would love this park. Birds are everywhere. 😁

      1. I know I would then for sure!! 😁

        1. Come on over! 😉

            1. Yay! I’ll leave the light on for you. 😁

  3. You never know what company you’ll find out on the trail!

    1. That’s for sure. 😂

  4. […] Another scene captured while hiking One Step at a Time. […]

  5. Simply beautiful. How cool it is to be joined by that crane!

    1. Thank you. It was a special moment for sure. 😊

        1. Thanks for joining in with such incredible images. 😊

          1. Thank you.

  6. Thank you again for the mention Pepper. Kensington Metropark has a lot of treasures bird-wise from what I see in the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Photographers site on Facebook. Now you have to find a baby Sandhill Crane (a/k/a a “colt”). They are adorable and several have hatched in the last few weeks. I had a post once where a Heron was strolling ahead of me, right down the middle of the trail. It reminded me of an older gentleman who used to walk at the Park, always with his hands behind his back as he strolled.

Here is my part two of my Mother’s Day post with some cutie-pie goslings:

    1. I’ve seen a couple of baby Sandhill Cranes but have never been close enough to get a pic. Hoping to one of these days. 😁

      1. They are cute aren’t they? I saw a video of two colts taken by Jocelyn Anderson on Facebook. It was a very cold morning and the mom was eating and just kind of plunked down and the babies climbed into her feathers to warm up.

        1. They are adorable! Maybe this is the year to capture some pics of baby sandhill cranes. 😉

          1. Yes, hopefully we both get them. You have a good chance at Kensington since there are so many Sandhill Cranes. I have only one pair which I only saw once or twice in 2025 in the Spring. Hopefully they return to Lake Erie Metropark.

            1. Have you been to Lake Erie Metropark recently?

              1. That’s funny you ask because I finally got there today – first time this year! My car was done on Tuesday, but I had gutter repairs and cement porch steps to deal with, so today was the day to get out. It is still rather drab looking in the marsh. The reeds have not greened up yet. I saw a Mama Mallard with about a dozen ducklings waddling on the side of the road as you exit the park – unfortunately I couldn’t pull over as it’s not allowed. Last time I pulled into an area I wasn’t supposed to so I could take pictures of a doe with her fawn, the Metropark police came over to see me.

I also went to Elizabeth Park afterward as there are many ducks there in the canal, but I saw zero ducks which surprised me – they must all be sitting on nests with their mates nearby.

                1. Sounds like a fun day. I am doing the Metropark challenge again this year. I have checked off 8 of them so far. Still need to get to Lake Erie Metropark sometime. 😉

                  1. That is ambitious to have visited 8 Metroparks already for the Challenge – only 5 left to finish up.

  7. Your pet crane looks very attached, Pepper – very tame at least. It is so dignified, especially from behind. It reminds me of a butler leading the way to meet the boss at the end of the pathway.

Thanks for the mention for last week. Tomorrow I’ll post a bit of an addition to those steps tiptoing through pinks all over the world. Have a wonderful day and the rest of your week

    1. My pet crane was fun to have around but alas, it left me for others of its own kind. 😁

Looking forward to seeing your addition. Thanks!

      1. What’s up with that??? So funny!😂

Such lovely company you have on your walk, I love the way the sandhill crane strides out ahead of you too ❤️ xxx

    1. Yes, it didn’t take long for the crane to disappear completely from my sight. I did enjoy its company for a little while.

  9. Ohh, that was not bad company at all! Lovely photos from your walk.

Here are some photos from Cyprus.

  11. Oh, to walk with a crane! What a blessing!

    1. That it was, for sure. 😊

  12. It is wonderful to be accompanied on one’s walk by a bird.

    1. Yes, it was delightful. Thanks so much for joining in. Your images are perfect for the challenge. 😊

  13. Love the serene beauty of this place. I especially like the bird trotting along and seeing its backside haha. Here is mine for this week: https://wanderingteresa.com/travel-diary-still-in-hoi-an-day-9/

    1. So glad you enjoyed the images, Teresa. Thanks so much for sharing more of the trip with my challenge. 😊

  14. That’s a fantastic running companion (for a bit, anyway)!

    1. I enjoyed the company immensely but I guess I wasn’t the greatest companion. 😁

    1. Thanks, Gisela. Have a great week. 😊
