A World of Contrasts

World of Contrasts

The earth is a world of contrasts. A few scenes in Kenya highlights the differences according to the closeness of the subjects and location of my camera.

First, people in the basket of the hot air balloon above, are standing (not sitting). In comparison to the huge balloon above them, they look tiny don’t they? Same for the egret and the elephant. One wrong step by the elephant would flatten the bird, but it didn’t happen.

A tall adult giraffe and a younger giraffe standing in a grassy landscape, with trees in the background and a distant view of plains.

Lastly, a mother giraffe and its calf. Even though newborn giraffes usually measure 6 feet tall, this one looks smaller in comparison to its mom, doesn’t it? Both images of the elephant and the giraffes were taken from quite a distance and the safety of our jeep. What about the trees in the background? Are they actually shorter than the giraffes?

A hint to the answer about the height of the trees can be seen on “A Radiant African Sunset.”

  3. Wonderful contrasts, Pepper! Great choices.

  4. What a beautiful post, Pepper! The contrasts are wonderful.

  5. These are very different perspectives and contrasts – I enjoyed seeing the comparisons of the animals. That hot air balloon is so large and the riders do seem to be very tiny.

    1. Glad you enjoyed them, Linda. Africa was an experience unlike any other. So worth doing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. My boss visited Africa and the family went on several daily safari adventures and he sent me the photos. He took a lot of photos with his phone.

        1. Nice of him to send you pics. ๐Ÿ˜Š

          1. Yes, they were not formatted or anything – just raw out of the camera, so not quite like looking at yours. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was watching a video early today about a bull elephant stuck in a mudhole in Kenya and how they got him out using straps as his entire body was in the mud. It was amazing and he got out without using tranquilizers. They pulled him out with a Toyota Land Cruiser and it was the 17th rescue of its kind in the last year.

            1. Amazing! We saw one elephant deep in mud while in Kenya but he was moving around just fine. I remember being surprised that he wasn’t getting stuck. Now I know that they do. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

              1. It was quite amazing to watch the crew pull him out. I think it was four men getting the elephant hooked up with the tow strap to the vehicle and the elephant was struggling mightily.

                1. That must have been intense to watch. Glad they got him out.

  6. I love the balloon perspective especially!

    1. Thanks, Julie. Yes, I enjoyed the hot air balloon image too. It was so fun looking down on it as we took off right before them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. So many amazing sights to see Pepper. Allan

    1. Yes, there sure was much to experience. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. The hot air balloon capture is just so wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, Hammad. I loved our hot air balloon ride. That shot was taken soon after we lifted up in the air as I was looking down at the next one about to take off.

  9. Loved your balloon image Pepper! It reminded me of our experience which was amazing. Interestingly the balloonist told us only about 50% of balloon flights actually happen because of wind conditions. I guess we were more fortunate than I realized!

    1. Thanks, Tina. I did not realize that the cancelation rate was that high. Glad you got to go up in one too!

  10. Great perspectives! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

    1. Thanks, Eliza. I thoughtI was done showing my Africa photos but then I see more that I want to share. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thoughtful words accomplish much.
