I came across the tiniest of details in a blossom at Whitcomb Conservatory in Belle Isle. What looks like a flower within a flower was spotted on the bloom of a yellow Crown of Thorns.
A row of red flowers from a Crown of Thorns was featured in “Nature Thrives Indoors.”

The tiny flower at the center is the true flower. The white outer “petals” are actually leaves. Here is what Wikipedia told me about the Crown of Thorns (Euphorbia milii): The flowers are small, subtended by a pair of conspicuous petal-like bracts, variably red, pink or white, up to 12 mm (0.47 in) broad.
That is so interesting and good to know! So it is actually a tiny flower within petals. I have seen red and these yellow in different conservatories. Now I’ll take an even closer look next time. Thanks for the info. 😁
