Close to the Ground

Close to the Ground

Mayapple flowers bloom below its leaves, low and close to the ground. I found a few in bloom while on a trail at Hudson Mills Metropark in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Close-up of a delicate white flower with yellow stamen set against a green background.

A couple other Mayapple blossoms were featured three years ago on From Above and Below.

  1. […] One Step at a Time #11 takes us to Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Michigan. Spring wildflowers were blooming along the trails. A Mayapple blossom was featured in an earlier post this week, Close to the Ground. […]

  2. Your lovely photo brought back memories of the first time I saw a mayflower. By the way, I love so many of the quotes on your portfolio site.

  3. They are pretty flowers – I don’t think I’ve ever seen these flowers before.

    1. I find them interesting because their leaves may cover the blossoms unless you are looking for them. A fellow blogger told me about the blossoms one time when I posted a picture of the plant growing along a trail in spring. She was right! Now I look forward to them each year. ๐Ÿ˜

      1. That’s good to know. I never knew there were so many wildflowers in Michigan until I bought a field guide several years ago.

        1. I’ll try to find my pic of just the leaves from the top so that you know what to look for. ๐Ÿ˜‰

          1. Okay – thanks, I hope I’ll see it one day!

            1. I found a good website online that shows the mayapple before blooming. I sent it to your email. ๐Ÿ˜Š

              1. Okay, thank you Pepper – I will look now. I had not checked my e-mail earlier as I couldn’t get into it. Every so often, I have to log out, wait a while and log back in. So I hadn’t done that yet.
