A Place Called Home

Place Called Home

Milford Township, Michigan is a place called home! After moving to eight cities in five different states over the years, we settled in Michigan two years ago.

A suburb of Detroit, Milford has a population of roughly 17,000 people. One main reason for choosing Milford was its proximity to Kensington Metropark. The first photo of the sunrise was captured a few steps from our front door. On the photo below, the Metropark is on the far left where the trees meet the sky.

Two snowy Michigan scenes were also shared in an earlier post “Close to Home.“

  1. Seems like you are enjoying your new home

    1. We really are enjoying it much more than we even expected to. For us, it is definitely a great place to call home.

  2. How nice you have such a view of the sunrise Pepper and are so close to Kensington Metropark as well – maybe within walking distance would be great. I went to Lake Erie Metropark today … they had Jefferson Avenue all torn up for repaving and going there was not bad, but I saw they were sending people down cross streets. Thankfully I did not get lost though I was sure I would as I’ve never been on the road they sent me to. 🙂

    1. So glad you got to Lake Erie Metropark. Kensington is only about one mile away from my front door. I have walked there but I wouldn’t recommend walking there all the time. It is walkable if you want to see that one section of Kensington. The Metropark is so huge that you’d be doing a whole lot of walking if you wanted to get to the end of the park and back. 😉

      1. Yes, that makes sense too. You could always bike over, but then a car is just as convenient, especially if you are toting camera gear.

        1. Biking is a great idea! I do have a bike that has sat in the garage since we moved here. Much easier to stop and take pictures if I am walking, I think. 🤔

          1. Years ago I followed a Swedish photographer. He lived not far from work and rode everywhere on his bike. He’d carry his big camera bag in his bike basket – just hop off the bike and go for the shot. 🙂 He quit posting for some reason – he posted each post in Swedish and English.

            1. Those posts must have been fun! 😊

              1. Yes, I was sorry to see him go. John became very ill and quit his job, then quit posting. He said he was so tired, all he wanted to do was sleep. I wondered if he had Lyme Disease as he was a photographer, always traipsing around in woods, tall grass – he was a birder mostly. I’ve always wondered what happened.

                1. That makes me sad. It is hard not knowing what happened.

                  1. Yes, I would like to know. Interestingly I just thought of him the other night. I like the WordPress “Rewind” feature and always go back to my old posts and I saw him comment on them. He also, as a side gig, (the nature photography was a hobby), he photographed cars like at car events and I told him about the Woodward Dream Cruise which used to (maybe still do) streamed the Cruise from several cameras set up on Woodward. It also streamed on WOMC, an oldies station that broadcast from there as well. He was excited to see the old cars and could not see it as he was in a foreign country.

  3. That looks a great place to live!

    1. It really is and has been the perfect place for us.

  4. You are blessed to live there, Pepper!

    1. I agree with you, Terri. 😊

      1. Terri, I just realized that I was weeks ahead on this challenge. So sorry! 😯

  5. Glad you found a sweet spot! Does your husband still fly or did he retire?

    1. The countdown is 25 days to the first day of retirement for my hubby. I am so looking forward to that. Thanks for asking. 😊

  6. What a beautiful area!

    1. Thanks, Egidio. It has been even better than we expected with many beautiful trails close by.

  7. It’s a lovely area. It’s been years but I use to visit Michigan regularly on business and would spend some off-time exploring the area between Detroit, Lansing and Battle Creek by car. Have a good weekend!

    1. Glad you have experienced Michigan, Earl. It was never on our list of places to live and yet, here we are and enjoying it immensely, 😊

  8. “…..Ein Platz genannt Heimat”🌧️🌈🌦️🍀🧚

    1. Thanks, Gisela. 😊
