Why Is It There?

Earlier this week, I decided to explore Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton, Michigan for the first time. While on the Hidden Lake Bend Trail, I was left bewildered by this large round thing pictured below . It was not too far off the trail, so I moved in for a closer look. I have two questions about it. What is it and why is it there? Do you know what it is?

The Hidden Lake Bend Trail is enjoyable and appropriately named. On a later post, I will include images to show you why I think it is aptly named. In the meantime, there are more trails to try at Huron Meadows Metropark.

  1. No idea, but looks annoying.

    1. It is definitely an eyesore being so close to the trail. 😏

  2. Huh, it looks like a piece of culvert. Was there a stream nearby? We have these under our roads all over the place. Annoying, they just leave old ones to rust away, rather than hauling them to a recycling facility. Perhaps there isn’t one close enough or funds to remove waste? Or maybe they just can’t be bothered? Maybe next time find a ranger (if there is one) to ask. 🙂

    1. That makes so much sense. Yes, there is a stream not too far away. Now I realize I’ve seen only the sides of ones like this along other trails at the Indiana Dunes. They are used under some trails where low water sits on either side of the trail. Thanks for my light bulb moment. 😁

  3. Most definitely bewildering, …and how on Earth did anyone go to the trouble snd manage to get it there!

    1. That’s a very good question. The most unusual thing I have come across was an old rusty car on National Park land that must have been there for decades. After taking a closer look, I realized there was also parts of a fireplace still standing. There must have been a home there before it was part of the national park system. 😮
