I was in for a surprise as I headed out to Lake Michigan this morning. At -4°F, there was snow and shelf ice on the beach. The unexpected surprise was seeing steam swirling up from the Lake Michigan waves. Apparently the vapor was formed from the really cold air coming across the water.

This image was taken from Lake View Beach – Indiana Dunes National Park. With the wind conditions and the negative temperatures, I didn’t stay out as long as I usually do. I quickly headed back to the warmth of home.
