The Vanishing Boardwalk

With four different trails, there is plenty to explore at Lyon Oaks County Park in Wixom, Michigan. By combining some of the looped trails, you can hike up to four miles without seeing the same section twice. The vanishing boardwalk below is one of three trails that takes you across a wetland.

The trails are not paved and also without much noticeable elevation changes. Most of the trails are through a shady forest. Not far from the parking lot, there is even a great viewing area of a blue heron rookery. It is worth making a stop there. This year, there are about 10 active nests with a clear view upwards.

Wildflowers along the Lyon Oaks County Park trails were featured on earlier post, “Summer Wildflowers.”
