Snoop in the Garden

Time flies by when wandering around gardens with my camera. I walk slowly and often get low to the ground to get a closer look. Yes, I am a snoop in the garden. This time it was again in Maui, where blooms were everywhere.

Thinking this is a Rose of Sharon. Confirmation or correction is appreciated. A closeup of a magnolia blossom was featured on “Bare and Exposed.”

    1. Thanks, Eliza. I was hoping you would comment. Is there a difference between a hibiscus and a Rose of Sharon? ๐Ÿ˜Š

      1. Other than flower size, their pistils/stamens are distinctly different, the ROS being thicker, shorter and a bit fuzzy. While both are of the genus Hibiscus, H. syriacus is ROS, and most tropical hybrids as in your photo are from H. x rosa-sinensis, which are not winter hardy like the ROS.

        1. That helps so much! I had known that some could survive our winters and not others but I had not been able to figure out how to tell the difference. Thank you, thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Š
