An eye-catching monarch viceroy butterfly with its bright orange feathers outlined in black, paused long enough for me to click.

This butterfly was fluttering about last summer (2024) along the Indiana Dunes National Park trails. For an image of a Western Tiger Butterfly, click here.
One of the things I enjoy most about blogging is how much I learn from my fellow bloggers. In this case, it has to do with butterfly identification. Eliza let me know that this is a viceroy. The difference between a monarch and viceroy is the black line through the lower wings. I would not have ever caught that otherwise. Thanks, Eliza!
