One Step at a Time #6

One Step at a Time #6

Time to share your photos on One Step at a Time #6 from wherever you have taken a step or two or more . This week I’ve got two more images from my week in Texas. I spotted these at Dogwood Canyon Audubon, located in the hills southwest of downtown Dallas.

A view of a lush, green forest from a raised vantage point, featuring wooden benches and a rustic fence in the foreground, with cloudy skies above.

Along the trail, there are several overlooks over the top of the trees. They are great places to take a break while enjoying the views. I recommend taking binoculars because there are definitely lots of birds around. Even though, some of the hike is uphill, it is not difficult. The trail zigzags quite a bit so it is never a hard climb but a hiking stick is helpful at times.

A winding dirt path through a lush green forest with tall trees and dense foliage.

I appreciate the photos that have been shared over the past few week so much! It is fun seeing and learning about the places you’ve been. Can’t wait to see what is posted for this week. As always, take a moment to look at other’s posts shared last week, here are the links:

Terri shared some lovely flowers a few surprises.
Donna’s wonderful photos came straight from her own backyard.
Sue shared some beautiful yet creepy images of a Bald Cypress swamp
Linda watched a heron take some slippery steps on an icy creek.
Egidio’s beautiful images came from Twin Springs Preserve

  1. […] the posts shared last week were full of beautiful color. If you missed them, here are the […]

  2. Very nice trail. It reminds me a lot of the trails around the Austin area. I did a wonderful hike (among several) last week in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (South Texas). Here’s my entry:

    1. Thanks, Egidio. I have tried commenting on your post but WP is not allowing the comment to go through. I will try again later. In case I don’t succeed, I enjoyed your lovely photos of a very colorful bird. 😊

      1. Thank you, Pepper. That’s a WP thing to prevent spamming. They are requiring people to “register” in order to comment. If you’re using the Reader, it won’t work at all. You will need to be on my site in order to comment. Generally that works. Thanks for the heads-up.

        1. Thanks, Egidio. I’ll give that a try. 😊

          1. It should work now. There was a setting I don’t recall checking, but I have unchecked it so that people don’t have to register to comment.

            1. Thanks, Egidio. 😉

Such a beautiful trail and the zigzag makes it so much easier 💚 xxx

    1. It really does make it easier and it is also more enjoyable. 😉

  4. Beautiful shot! My kind of place to sit and ponder.

    1. Mine too! Hope I get to go back again sometime.

  5. Dogwood Canyon Audubon sounds like a wonderful place to hike Pepper. I do like the overlooks and it’s very scenic. So, no wonder they added “Audubon” to the venue’s name if you get to see and hear a lot of birds.

Thank you again for the mention for my heron taking an icy hike post and here is my post this week. It was part of a long walk at Heritage Park and I always stop at this pollinator garden.

    1. Thanks for linking your post to the challenge, Linda. You would enjoy Dogwood Canyon. It was a wonderful spring hike. 😊

      1. You’re welcome Pepper! I do think I would enjoy Dogwood Canyon with lots to see and hear.

        1. I went to Belle Isle for the first time today. Have you been there?

          1. Pepper, I was last there in 1973, my senior year in high school. I participated in a March of Dimes Walk-a-thon for Babies. A few high school friends and I walked around the entire island to raise money and the person who led the entire group of walkers was a very young Bob Seger, who had not hit it big yet. I know it is nice at Belle Isle and they revitalized the Anna Scripps Conservatory a year ago or so. Were all the Daffodils still in bloom? I know they plant a lot of them there.

  6. How refreshing and lovely, Pepper, I’d most definitely enjoy these trails and overlooks. What birds did you see?

Here’s my latest for your “One Step at a Time” challenge, another memorable hike my husband and I laugh at to this day! ~~

    1. I thought of you as I was going along this trail, Donna. I heard so many bird songs all along the way and saw a few. I am embarrassed to say that I have no idea what they were. My excuse is that I was not prepared for bird watching at all. I ran into quite a few birders and they were all intently looking up at the trees with their binoculars. I, on the other hand, did not even take my binoculars with me to Texas. I also didn’t take my long lens. Of course, the first time I go to Dallas without my long lens is also the time I discovered this Audubon trail. 😜

      1. Hey, that’s okay, when traveling, we have to travel light! And sometimes, it’s about experiencing a new trail and not the wildlife, right?!! New trails are exciting to follow. When you go back, you’ll know what you need to pack. Binoculars for sure with those big views!

        1. Exactly what I was thinking. 😊

    1. So glad it worked. 😊

    1. Sorry for the duplicate, Pepper. For some reason, I keep having trouble posting to your comments…probably my lack of tech know how!

      1. No problem, Sue. I’d rather have it twice than not at all. 😉 Sorry you’ve had problems with a comment going through. It may not be on your end at all. I have noticed that some of my comments take longer to show up than others. Maybe WP gets bogged down at times. It could also be an issue on my end. Don’t hesitate to let me know if the issue continues.

    2. Thanks, Sue. I always enjoy your words of encouragement. Thanks for linking them to my site. 😉

  7. Beautiful photos, Pepper. I love all that fresh green.

    1. Thanks, Lynette. This is best time of the year to see fresh green in Texas, especially in the Dallas area. 😊

Thoughtful words accomplish much.
