One Step at a Time #12

Here we are at One Step at a Time #12. This hike started on a drippy day at Lake Erie Metropark. By the time I was done, the sun was shining brightly. Happiness!

    The recent rain sure made everything look greener at this Metropark Pepper, especially in the first photo. I can’t place where that first photo was taken – maybe at Trapper’s Run Trail? I think the second photo of the marsh may be by the marina.

      can’t remember the name of the trail off the top of my head. I am at Starbucks right now and my trail maps are at home. Oh, I think I might have saved the hike on my app. I’ll look it up later and get back to you on that. 😉

        Okay, thanks Pepper for letting me know. I know there are a couple of trails that I never go on – one is a trail that goes from the woods toward the parking lot where you check in when you arrive. I wondered if it was that part of the trail.

          Come to think of it, you are probably right. I did start off on a trail from the parking lot into the woods.. Con you get to both trails that you are referring to from the same parking lot? Looking at the path I took on the app, it looks like I went in one direction when I parked. Then I came back and did the loop around the marsh trail.

          Silly me! I did all 13 Metroparks in 10 days. I can’t remember all the trails yet. I’d be completely lost on one of the trails still without my app. 😁

            You can do the Cherry Island Trail either starting from the area by the boat launch or you can start it down the road from the Marshlands Museum and there is a path you can take there or just keep going until you reach the overlook. I am a creature of habit and go that way. I never tried that trail by where the Metropark trucks park. That’s a lot of Metroparks in 10 days! I know you said you visited them all last year as well.

              It’s not as much as it sounds. Where we live, we are about halfway between all the Metroparks. Some are so close together that it is easier to do more than one in a day rather than only do one at a time. Much better on the gas mileage too! 😉

                I didn’t realize that. Once I did a post, having visited Oakwoods, Willow and Lake Erie Metropark in one day. There is a bike trail you can take to do that, which is 30+ miles long. I saw a woman who used to walk at Council Point Park riding her bike there a few times when I visited. It was easier on a bike, than a car, to do all three as there was always a lot of traffic.

                Did you find Oakwoods Metropark interesting? I’ve only been two or three times and focused on the animal rehab area mostly. I took a “Walk and Sketch” class there once but the woods is not much as to trails. I’ve not been to the butterfly viewing area as I thought it was too rustic looking and worried about ticks. Last time I was there the small overlook by the nature center was taped off with caution tape as it was listing and unstable.

                  Yes, I did like Oakwood Metropark. I try to do at least one different trail each time I go to the Metroparks. I have enjoyed some more than others. I can see why you enjoy Lake Erie. Wishing that one was closer to me. I’d be there more often. 😉

                    I was at Lake Erie Metropark one time and chatting with one of the patrol officers who was off that day and walking his dog. They patrol several parks at a time and he told me Oakwoods at dusk is very busy as people come to see all the deer that come out at night. That surprised me as the wooded area did not seem so dense.

                      Yes, go at dusk he said. He patrols between the three parks but ensures he is at Oakwoods at dusk as he said traffic is heavier at the park since people want to see the deer. I was surprised as the only critters I’ve seen (that were not rehabbed raptors in a cage) were a pair of chipmunks and a hummingbird at the feeder near the nature center.
