In the Sunshine of Africa

In the sunshine of Africa, looking for shade comes in second only to water.

An elephant standing near a tree with two white birds in the foreground, set in a grassy landscape.

A gallery of images taken at Amboseli National Park was featured on Wilderness of Africa.

  2. An amazing photo of this magnificent animal Pepper! And those two herons in front make the scene even more striking. So small compared to the giant, yet every bit as valuable❣

    1. So glad you like the pic, Anita. Yes, they are both valuable and work together beautifully. 😊

  3. Fabulous capture. It must have been such an incredible experience to see the elephants up close and in their natural habitat.

    1. Thanks. The African Safari was the experience of a lifetime and one I will never forget.

  4. I showed it on my Blog.

    1. Thanks, Gisela.

  5. The elephant looks worn out – poor thing. The egrets look so tiny in comparison to the elephant. Are they like cattle egrets that feed off any bugs that the cattle might be carrying, only this time it’s an elephant or are they just kind of hanging out?

    1. You are exactly right, Linda. Yes, they do feed off the bugs. 👍🏽

      1. I thought that might be the case. I saw them on cattle in some other blogger’s posts.

  6. Wonderful photo Irene but then again it is an Elephant 😀🐘

    1. haha! So true and thanks. 😁

  7. I love the juxtaposition of the egrets and the elephant. Is it a young elephant?

    1. Ju-Lyn, that is a great question. No, I don’t think it was a young elephant. There were several young elephants in the heard and they were usually closely surrounded by the larger and older elephants.

  8. Those egrets are very trusting… Great shot!

    1. Yes! It was amazing how well birds of all sizes mixed in with the herds of elephants. They all worked together very well and benefited from each other. 😉

      1. There is a lesson for humans to follow. 🙂

        1. So true. 😉

  9. Wow, that’s a great shot, thank you

    1. Thanks, Dale. I was hoping it was enough for your challenge. 🙂
