DaVinci The Exhibition

The Exhibition

Shapes and designs of DaVinci’s inventions are on display at The Exhibition at the Henry Ford Museum. With over 65 full-scale inventions, there is much to see. Below on the left is DaVinci’s Study on the United Wing, a try to allow man to fly. Next to the wing stands one of his locking systems to prevent free spinning gears during a malfunction.

Below, the flapping wing was one of Leonardo’s first studies on flight. Another image from DaVinci’s exhibition was featured on “Dream of Flying.”

A large, white, fabric-like wing with a structured design, featuring red stitches along its seams, displayed on a wooden surface.

  1. Oh, this is just perfect! The Universal Genius has the throne here. After mother nature…but still!

    1. So glad you enjoyed it. I wasn’t sure whether it fit the challenge but I guess it does. 😊

  2. I was thinking along the same lines as Egidio – definitely classic. I love a post that gives me ideas 🙂

    1. Yay! Always glad to help. 😊

  3. Wow, Pepper! You went classic with these photos. Awesome!

    1. Thanks, Egidio. I had been to the exhibit about a week ago, I was intrigued by DaVinci and it was on my mind. 😊

  4. DaVinci was clever and you captured some of his brilliance.

    1. I am embarrassed to admit that up to the time that I went to the DaVinci Exhibition, I only knew about his paintings. There was so much more to the man. Pretty Amazing.

      1. Same here and I wonder why we never learned more about him in school?

        1. Hopefully those who studied art or design learned a bit more than me about him.

          1. Yes, I hope so too!

  5. I would love to see that exhibition. Looks fascinating!

    1. It is at the Henry Ford Museum until May 6. Come on over! 😉

  6. Such an incredible example of the best manking has (or has ever) had. A special treat to have included him as a response to the challenge. Perfect!

    1. Thanks and I am so glad you enjoyed the images, Tina. It was an amazing exhibition.

  7. Pepper, as an aviator (retired), I always admired Da Vinci’s interest in flight considering it predates aviation by 260 years. Da Vinci wasn’t just early—he was astonishingly early, imagining principles of lift, drag, and mechanical flight long before the scientific revolution, long before lighter-than-air craft, and centuries before anyone could test such ideas.

    1. DaVinci’s interest in flight was the biggest surprise ever for me. I didn’t have a clue.

  8. The man was a genius!

    1. Yes, he was! I had no idea.

  9. Until I read your other post last week, I had no idea da Vinci dreamt of flying – and created these wings in an effort to make it come true.

    1. I didn’t know either! I learned so much about DaVinci from this exhibit.

  10. I would never have thought of doing something like this, one I wish I could go to the exhibition and two great collection of shapes Pepper.

    1. Yay! If you ever have a chance to visit a DaVinci Exhibition as it travels, I would encourage you to go. I was surprised to realize how little I knew about DaVinci
