Don’t be fooled! The start of the trail to Diamond Head State Monument in Waikiki looks easy enough. The difficult part can be seen in the distance, the steep climb to the summit of the Diamond Head Crater.
With slightly less than a mile climb up about 560 feet from the trailhead to the top of the volcano, the views along the way make the trek well worth it. Steps and a hand rail help you get to the highest point. The beautiful perspectives along the way will also give you an excellent reason for a stop to catch your breath.
At the very top, you’ll get this view of the Pacific Ocean meeting the Honolulu, Hawaii skyline. There’s only one way to go from here and that is back down which is much easier. Stop along the way and give an encouraging smile to those on the way up.
