“Are you capturing my best side?” asked the curious female cardinal.

The state bird of seven of our fifty U.S. states, the northern cardinal is easily identified by its plumage and song. I have seen many in Texas, Ohio, and Indiana, but this one was captured in Michigan. A gallery of birds captured at the Indiana Dunes National Park was also posted on “Before Saying Goodbye.”
