A Lone Tree

While exploring Kenya, it was not unusual to see a lone tree standing out in the openness of Africa’s landscape. On this image of a lone tree, I decided to experiment with black & white photography

Even though I was around before digital cameras existed, I did not have an interest in photography at all. At least, not until I tried a point and shoot camera and got hooked. Digital has made making mistakes while learning photography easier and much less expensive.

What about you?
Did you start with film or digital?
If you use both, do you prefer one over the other?

  1. You are right. Digital photography has made many things about creativity easy. This is such a beautiful shot and there is a melancholy to it too. So glad you joined, Pepper.
Welcome to Thursday Tree Love. I’m really happy to have you joins.

    1. Thanks,Parul. ☺️

  2. Lovely tree and photograph. B&W suits the stark landscape. My first photos were on film .. but I enjoy digital photography better.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. At times, I had wished that I could try film but it seems way to expensive to start now. 😉

  3. Black and white seems very fitting for this picture

    1. I appreciate your comment. I often struggle with deciding what works in b&w or doesn’t. 😉

  4. Nice composition in B&W!

    1. Thanks, Donna. 😊

  5. That looks fantastic, but also it looks lonely, wonderful Pepper.

    1. Thanks, Leanne. It does have a look of loneliness. There were a few giraffes and elephants not too far in the distance. 😉

  6. Bet that tree has seen a lot of browsing and still soldiers on.
I remember getting my first Instamatic in the 70s and my first 35 mm in 1980, a bit investment for me at the time. Digital is so much easier, cheaper and quicker to see the results!

    1. I hope you kept both of them. 😉

      1. Most likely in the closet!!

        1. Oh, yay! 😊

  7. Beautiful tree photo, Pepper.

    1. Thanks, Egidio. You have some beautiful images of nature on your site as well. I appreciate your comment. 😊

      1. Thanks, Pepper. Nature is my inspiration.

  8. Beautiful “Wolf Tree” as we say around here. I use a digital camera, but it’s a point and shoot with a zoom lens. I like to walk in nature, so try to keep my equipment simple. It makes me smile when I see young people going back to film cameras. I’m old enough to remember when the instant Polaroid camera first came out! 🙂

    1. I remember the Polaroid cameras too! I bought my granddaughter the Fuji copy of the Polaroid and she loves it! She enjoys watching the film develop.

I am with you on keeping my equipment light and simple while I hike. The less I have to manage, the more pics I have energy to take. 😁

Thoughtful words accomplish much.
