A Glimpse Into the Darkness

Glimpse into the Darkness

A glimpse into the darkness through an open door.

A wooden cabin with an open door, featuring a mix of weathered logs and a metallic door panel. The interior is dark, hinting at storage space filled with logs.

Another image of the window below, on the same wall as the door, was featured on “The Broken Window“. If you saw the original post of just the window a few days ago, does seeing the entire wall change your perception? Just wondering . . .

  1. Both the window and the door look like paintings, not photos. I love old structures.

    1. So do I. The beauty comes through the imperfections.

  2. I must confess, I’d take a peek but would not likely venture inside. As a person who does not like creepy crawlies, I’d imagine spiders dropping down on my head or me pawing the air at big spider webs.

    1. I understand. I should be more cautious and smarter like you. πŸ˜‰

      1. Nope, I am not smarter … just scared of creepy crawlies. I’m not fond of going to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge because they have Eastern Fox Snakes. If I am on the walkway or on cement, I’m fine and they have some Trex walkways through the woods, but they don’t go all the way through the woods. Plus now, there are tick worries. This Spring/Summer is looking dismal in many ways.

  3. Yes, the door alone looking into the darkness is much more intriguing. Nice photos, Pepper.

    1. Thanks, Jet. The door is the type of scene that always makes me want to see more. πŸ˜‰

  4. It’s an interesting building and photographs. It’s a log building but the logs are set so wide apart and there is no chinking applied between logs. Then there is the vertical plank wall inside the logs To top it off, there is the mis-matched top portion with the window. It almost looks like it was assembled from different bits of buildings. So in this case, seeing the whole thing probably raises more questions than answers for me, which grabs my interest even more.

    1. Good eye, Earl! You might be right about it being assembled from different bits of buildings. Apparently the buildings and old farm equipment are remnants from the original Penn Farm established in 1854. The building pictured was originally built between 1890 and 1900 and was called the Jack Barn for two donkeys named Jack and Jenny. A portion of the barn was also used to store hay.

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate your observations. Have a wonderful rest of the day. πŸ˜‰

  5. Yes, it does. A different impression entirely. πŸ™‚

  6. mysterious

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Tanja. Have a wonderful day. 😊

  7. I love this photo. You can feel the mystery, and I’m sure I’d hesitate a bit before stopping in. I checked out the other picture of the window. The two views are quite different. Great photos!

    1. Yay! So glad you enjoyed the photo. All I could think of as I got closer and closer to the building is that it was a great place for snakes to hide. 😁

        1. No worries! If snakes were there, I must not have bothered them too much. πŸ˜‚

  8. Beautiful photo and I love the textures of the wood in contrast to the metal of the door, Pepper!

    1. Thanks, Suzette. So glad you enjoyed the photo. Have a wonderful day. 😊

      1. You are welcome, Pepper. And a wonderful day to you.

  9. Viewing the entire wall changes my perspective. It’s like filling in the missing pieces of a story that were left out of the original. Once those gaps are filled, the story becomes much clearer and makes sense.

  10. A wonderful rustic building and intrigue Irene

    1. Thanks, Brian. 😊

  11. I don’t think so. I found your first picture of the broken window very lonely.

    1. Understandable, Lynette. I think seeing one piece of a puzzle as opposed to the whole thing can change the perspective. Have a wonderful day. 😊

      1. Thanks, you too. 😊

  12. Good one πŸ‘

Thoughtful words accomplish much.
