Flopping Down to the Ground

flopping down

A tired tree, flopping down to the ground at the Indiana Dunes National Park. This tree was spotted along the Great Marsh, a 1.5 mile looped trail in Beverly Shores, Indiana.

Sunrise along another section of the Great Marsh was featured on “Breaking Through the Haze of Morning.“

  1. Beautiful tree. Wonder how old it is.

    1. I cannot be sure but it seems like it has been there since I first hiked that trail. I used to hike there often when we lived in Indiana. That would make it at least 10-12 years old.

    1. I know! It doesn’t seem like it should survive but it has for several years. Makes me wonder if being on a very marshy area has helped. 🤔

    1. Thanks, Gisela

  2. Well, that’s sad – it looks healthy, with a lot of leaves and all ….

    1. Yes, somehow it has survived at least 8 years and was still.hanging on a few weeks ago.

      1. That’s amazing … I saw some trees bending to the ground and growing sideways in the one vintage cemetery, but they were healthy, in spite of how they were shaped.

        1. I was just thinking that nature is truly amazing. Then, I was reminded of people that I’ve known who have also survived in spite of tough trials along the way. I truly admire them.

          1. Yes, I think that when complaining about the weather now, dealing with heat and now the threat of severe weather which will break this heat wave, that we are still not in dire straits like the people in Venezuela. I cannot imagine the devastation after back-to-back earthquakes and all the loss of life (1,700 at last count) and injuries.

            1. Great point, Linda. I can’t even imagine what they are going through after the earthquakes.

              1. I can’t imagine the devastation and now estimating 2,000 deaths and 50,000 more people are still missing.

                  1. Yes it is. I watched a short film earlier today. It was in remarkable shape, colorized as well, showing horses, buggies and cars on the streets of San Francisco, just hours before the big San Francisco earthquake of 1906 where 3,000 lost their lives from the quake, aftermath from fires, etc.

                    1. Amazing that there is a record of that in film.

                    2. Yes, I was surprised to see it too.

  3. As always, another beautiful shot!

    1. Thank you. 😊

  4. A wonderful survivor

    1. It truly is! It was there the first time I ever hiked that trail and it was still there a few weeks ago when I went back.

  5. We’re all getting older! 😉

    1. And I am reminded of that every day. 😂
