When You Gotta Go

When you gotta go, it’s good to have the option of a two-story outhouse. The historic outhouse below was standing at the Grand Encampment Museum in Wyoming. An average of 60-70 inches of snow falls in. this part of Wyoming each year. According to the museum, that amount of snow made the first level inaccessible through the winter months.

A rustic wooden outhouse with separate entrances for women and men, surrounded by trees and greenery.

Two Wyoming landscapes were featured on “Wyoming Landscapes.”

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a two-story outhouse before!

    1. It is definitely unusual and I’ve only seen one at this museum in Wyoming.

  2. Clever solution for a snowy area!

    1. I thought it was too. 😉

  3. I’m sorry Pepper – I just read about a friend Piper and she was on my mind. I apologize.

    1. No worries. I’ve been called Piper lots of times. 😉

      1. Whew! I’m glad I’m not the only one then. I don’t know why I was thinking of a former co-worker named Piper and I Googled her and found she was co-owner of a business making hand-made dolls and had been on Fox 2 News a while back.

        1. Two of my friends are named Anne and Anita. I have been known to switch their names around a time or two. 😁

          1. That is understandable – too close in the names there. In high school, there were six of us girls who were inseparable during senior year. Three of us were named Linda. We had to use our last name initial to keep things straight – luckily they were not all the same initial.

  4. Well that is interesting Piper, but I have to admit, I’d try to limit my intake of fluids. 🙂 When I visited Turkey years ago (1981, so it may be different now), our tour guide recommended not drinking a lot of fluids before visiting as the area only had Turkish toilets. It was a very hot day … most of us wore light clothing and gravitated toward the shade a lot. 🙂

    1. Kinda sounds like what I did during my African Safari. 😁

      1. That’s funny! Sometimes traveling requires you to be flexible and just “go with the flow” but it’s good to have options. 🙂

        1. Exactly. 😉

  5. Hmm, I’m not sure that looks very sturdy.

    1. Thinking it might be sturdier than it looks but then. . . . I didn’t stand on any part of it either. 😁

  6. Makes sense! 🙂

    1. Yes, it does. I am thankful for more modern plumbing. 😉

      1. Having lived on a homestead in Maine, I second that! 😀

  7. That’s a great photo, and a most interesting outhouse. As others have said, I’d opt to the upper level.

    1. Thanks, Dan. Thinking you’ll have to join the line for the upper level. 😁

  8. Did you take a peek inside???

    1. No, I did not. I would have but the doors were locked to keep people out. 😉

  9. I didn’t think of snow, my first thoughts were, I wouldn’t want to be underneath with someone above me.

    1. Yeah, one can’t help wondering where it all goes..

      1. I can’t even think about that.

    2. Oh, me neither! I would head up those stairs. 😁

  10. That’s a great outhouse!

    1. I thought it was too, Frank. I had never even heard of a two story outhouse until I saw this one.
