Carefree Calmness

carefree calmness

I have recently realized that there is a sense of carefree calmness that results from hiking on familiar trails. After hiking in NW Indiana for years, I knew where to go depending on weather conditions. Some were treacherous on muddy or icy conditions. Other trails were beautiful on foggy days. For instance, Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve (pictured below) was one of my favorite spots on foggy mornings.

A foggy landscape at dawn featuring a barren tree silhouette and patches of mist enveloping the ground. In the background, other trees are partially obscured by the fog, and the sky is painted with soft hues of orange and blue.

For the past year and a half since moving to Michigan, I have enjoyed discovering new places to explore. At times over the winter, I found myself being overly cautious of conditions on the trails. Being unfamiliar with the trails had a lot to do with that. Now that the weather is slowly getting nicer, I am feeling more adventurous once again. I am getting back to getting more familiar and carefree calmness on the Michigan trails.

Another foggy morning was featured on “A Dreamy Morning.”

  1. Transcendent. What a wonderful hike.

    1. Yes, it was a beautiful morning for a hike. 😊

  2. Beautiful capture of the foggy, misty morning. I’m so glad spring is right around the corner, although I’m not really a fan of the muddy trails this time of year.

    1. I understand. Muddy trails can be treacherous. Have a great weekend. 😊

  3. Lovely, Pepper, a foggy morning awakening! It is nice to learn trail locations and what they offer at different times of the day or weather, have fun adventuring with new gusto!

    1. It’s been fun and busy the last few weeks and I am enjoying every minute of exploring. 😉

    1. Thanks, Egidio. 😊

  4. I love the mood captured Irene 😀

    1. Thanks, Brian. Gotta love those foggy mornings. 😊

  5. That’s good … you always have to be cautious, not only of ice/snow, but tree roots, one of the other worrisome things about rustic trails. I like the foggy photo – very nice!

    1. How did I forget to mention roots? Definitely treacherous. 😜

      1. A trip-and-fall just waiting to happen. Sterling State Park redid their Sterling Marsh Trail because of crumbling asphalt and overgrown tree roots which were treacherous. The trail and other parts of the park were closed all of 2025 for much-needed repairs.

        1. Yup, those roots can trap your foot in an instant. 😳

  6. 👏🏼 👍🏼

    1. Thanks! 😊

  7. A very peaceful, serene effect in this photo. Lovely.

    1. Thanks, Lynette. Exactly why I love foggy mornings. 😉
