Bicycles: A mode of transportation enjoyed through the years from childhood through adulthood. At the Henry Ford Museum a current exhibit, Powering Possibilities, features bicycles through the years. All information shared on this post was gathered from the Powering Possibilities exhibit.

Above is a velocipede, made by European inventors in the mid-1810s. According to the museum, velocipede is Latin for “swift of foot.”

Next is the Eagle Bicycle, dating back to 1891 and made in Stanford, Connecticut.

Fast forward to 1970 and that gets us to the coolest bike ever, the Sting-Ray Lemon Peeler (below). This is the type of bike I dreamed of having. Bright yellow, high handle bars, and with a banana seat, of course!

Uh, oh! I guess I just dated myself. Oh, well! I bet there’s others of you out there that wanted one too. Are you fessing up?
