Alongside a Hummock

Alongside a Hummock

A forest growing alongside a hummock or sand dune at West Beach – Indiana Dunes National Park.

Both of these scenes were snapped along West Beach earlier this summer – July 2026. An early morning pic a few miles away along Lake Michigan was featured on “The Meeting Place.“

  1. Love these photos-they look so “ocean-y”, and then I remember it’s Indiana! 😉

    1. I know! That is the best thing about all the Great Lakes. 😁

  2. It looks like a great place to walk and relax.

    1. Oh, it is that. The Indiana Dunes National Park was my go-to place for hiking before we moved to Michigan. 😁

      1. It would be a good workout climbing up and down those dunes.

        1. It sure was! On the trails closer to the beach, the sand is soft and deep. My feet would sink into the sand. The strangest part for me was experiencing that same trails in the wintertime. The sand would freeze and my feet would would no longer sink. That was easier. 😊

          1. I don’t think I’ve ever walked on sand that was frozen before. You would get a workout with your feet sinking in the sand, plus the up and down on the dunes.

            1. Along the shores of the Indiana Dunes is the only place I’ve walked on frozen sand. I haven’t gotten to the Michigan lakeshores in the winter time yet. Maybe this year. 🤔

              1. The ice at Lake Michigan by the lighthouses and also pics near the Mackinac Bridge are amazing sights to see. I’ve not been personally in the Winter, but I’ve seen photos of it.

                1. I would love to see the Mackinac Bridge in the middle of winter. I can’t even imagine the cold with the wind blowing across the frozen lake. 😮

                  1. The ice looks very blue too – very interesting looking. The lighthouse has these deadly-looking icicles from the spray freezing in place.

                    1. Let’s go! 😁

                    2. Think cool thoughts on hot Summer days!

  3. Now I want to go to the beach, if it wasn’t so cold

    1. Come on over here where it is much warmer right now. 😉

      1. Today it will be around 22C so that’s not too bad. Tonight will be 4C and that’s too cold 🙄

        1. I’ll try to send some warmth (80F) over your way. 😉

          1. Send first thing in the morning please.
The fire is on tonight but will be out by morning 😁

            1. Working on it. 😊

              1. Send warm NOW!!!!!

                1. I tried all day long! Now I’m tired and I am going to sleep. Stay warm. 😴

  4. As a young child my parents would take us to Indiana Dunes. I think it was West Beach. Your picture looks a lot like the dunes we used to run down.

    1. So glad you got to experience the Indiana Dunes, Frank. It is definitely a memorable place. 😊

  5. Grest shot 🙌

    1. Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
