The Long Boardwalk

This 1.5 mile looped trail with a long boardwalk is one of my favorite nature trails Kensington Metropark. This easy Deer Run Trail can be combined with other intertwining trails for a longer hike.. There are also views of Kent Lake and lots of birds and other wildlife to see.

    What a great landscape! I love boardwalks. I can relax and enjoy the scenery from them without worrying about losing my footing.

    Beautiful scenery Pepper. I’m sure the trail is wide to accommodate wheel chairs and strollers.

      A lot of the boardwalks at this Metropark are wider than most. Plenty of room to roam without bumping into other hikers. 😊

    That’s a long boardwalk – the boardwalks at Lake Erie Metropark are not that long and you step off onto pea gravel or mulch most of the time as they’re not long nor continuous.

      Yup, there are some long boardwalks at Kensington. Having them makes it mush easier to go through wetlands or marshes after the rainfall we’ve had lately. 😊

        That’s good – up until three or four years ago the Cherry Island Trail at Lake Erie Metropark was terrible and it would flood over sometimes – I went there with water everywhere, a foot or more with trees sitting in water. If it wasn’t water, it was mud. They fixed the problem so no more flooding and put down pea gravel which has helped.

            Yes, they did improve the trail. Now if they could improve the entrance/exit to the parking lot (potholes) and some of the road around the park which is rough as well.

                Yes, it’s bad – I always parked there, so now I go to where the Big Wave is. It is doubtful it will open this year, so there’s no one in that parking lot and it has no ruts in it.

      Yes, it was early spring. I have some more recent photos of the same spot but I thought the boardwalk stood out more in this one. 😉
