Ancient to New

ancient to new

Looking up at rooftops, from ancient to new. This is my response to Brian’s Monochrome Madness Challenge: Look Up (it’s on the roof).

Above on the left, Castillo San Cristobal in Puerto Rico was completed in 1783. On the right is Chicago’s Wrigley Building, completed in the early 1920. Below on the left, stands the Mercer Building in Louisville, Kentucky, completed in 1991. Last, is a residence on the edge of downtown in my home town in Michigan. Date of completion unknown.

Three monochrome images of reflections were featured in “An Upside Down World.”

  1. Excellent B&W shots! You get to appreciate the texture and contrast of the images more when theyre done this way.

    1. Thanks! It still amazes me how an easy change to b&w can give a different feel to the image.

  2. These are fantastic Pepper, love roofs like that.

    1. So glad to read your comment, Leanne. This one stretched my thinking a bit. 😁

  3. Very nice Pepper – the top part on the home near your home looks like a mini-lighthouse. I visited San Cristobal back in 1973. Friends of the family moved to Puerto Rico for two years while he opened up a satellite branch of the company he worked for in Michigan, so I visited them for Spring Break in my senior year of high school.

    1. Wow! I couldn’t even imagine traveling much outside of Texas when I was in high school. Going to Puerto Rico must have been an adventure.

Yes, the top of that house is what caught my attention. I might not have even noticed it if it wasn’t for the challenge prompt. Since it is not the type of pic I usually take, I had to go looking for something that would work.

      1. My parents were actually very strict and I was an only child, but since I was staying with friends of the family (who were just a little younger than my parents), they were fine with it. I had just turned 17, the youngest kid in my high school graduating class of over 600. The same family friends invited me to travel with them to Spain the following year (1974) and I did that as well while on Summer break from college. She was originally from Madrid, so there was no language barrier in Puerto Rico, nor in Spain. We stayed with her brother a few days, then traveled for 2 1/2 weeks on the road, returning to Madrid. I flew home myself and they stayed another week. They had no kids of their own, so they kind of adopted me.

        1. What a wonderful opportunity to travel safely while still in school. 👍🏽

          1. Yes, I consider myself very lucky to have had that opportunity. My boss at the diner where I worked weekends/holidays and on Summer break from college was accommodating as well.

  4. A wonderful way to showcase the theme Irene. The Castillo San Cristobal is amazing.
Thanks for joining in MM#56 😀

    1. Thanks for the fun challenge, Brian.

  5. That’s a good collection for the challenge.

    1. Thanks, Lynette. 😊

    1. Glad you find the buildings fascinating, Gisela. I appreciate your comment. 😊
