Anticipation

My favorite time of day is early mornings and watching the slow change from night to day. I love the anticipation as the sunshine comes up over the horizon and brings warmth to the day and reflections on the water. Darkness overtaken by light is what I call progress.

The two photos above were taken earlier this winter before the Great Marsh was frozen solid. The Great Marsh Trail is an easy 1.3 mile hike at the Indiana Dunes National Park. If you are a birdwatcher, bring your binoculars. You won’t be disappointed.

This last image was captured from the public boat dock at Long Lake in Valparaiso, Indiana. It is the only public access point that I have found along this lake. With all the rest of the lakefront sitting on private property, it is not an ideal place for a walk along the water’s edge but it is perfect for a beautiful and peaceful spot to watch the sunrise.

  1. I love to see both day to night and night to day transitions, though this would mean staying up on my roof top for a tidbit longer.
Thank you so very much for sharing these sky amazing captures with my challenge πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, both transitions are beautiful. Just don’t usually have the energy to drag myself out the door in the evenings. Too much of a morning person, I am. 😁

  2. Great shots.Watching the world come alive by the water is a guilt pleasure. Allan

  3. Excellent photos. I like the sharp contrasts and haze.

    1. I am very glad too. Thanks for following. 😊

  6. Pepper, beautiful images for the LAPC water challenge. I love the last fog image. In fact I love to take pictures of fog. Well done.

    1. Thanks, Anne. The fog one is my favorite too. πŸ˜‰

  7. Beautiful images and a lovely quote. I experience similar feelings when day turns into night. I prefer to sleep in the mornings, until my dogs wake me up. Luckily they are like me and often sleep until well after dawn πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Anita. I keep telling myself that I need to get out at sunset more often. I’ll try again. πŸ˜‹

  8. So beautiful and serene, and I love your quote! I never made it to this trail at sunrise, but I very much enjoyed it last summer! πŸ™‚

  10. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ“·πŸŒΉI used to go fishing … I loved all those mornings when it started to dawn and I tried to warm up from the first rays of the sun πŸ™‚β˜€οΈ

    1. Would you believe that I have never been fishing. Fly fishing is on my long bucket list of things I want to do. 😊

      1. 😁 Fly fishing is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. When I was little, I took part in competitions where a fly was thrown at a target and into the distance. And now it looks like I can do everythingπŸ€” … but I can’t skate 😁

        1. What? 😳 You can’t skate? . . . Oh, I can’t either. πŸ˜‚

          1. family curse😁
